First Christian Church of Galesburg was founded in 1872. We are a manifestation of the church body known as "The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We have been worshiping and witnessing at this location since 1916, though the building was not completed and dedicated until 1928. As "Disciples of Christ" we are one of over 4,000 similar congregations across the USA and Canada which had its origins on the American frontier in the early 19th century. Founding fathers of our church organization were Thomas and Alexander Campbell, Barton W. Stone,and Walter Scott. Since its beginning the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has endeavored to promote unity and to increase respect and understanding within the family of God. As Disciples we strive to remain obedient to the Lordship and teachings of Jesus and the New Testament by practicing a faith which is socially relevant and intellectually sound. Members are bound together in fellowship and service by belief in the central "confession" of the New Testament, that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God."

This is the last week of collecting items for Safe Harbor. Disciples Women are asking the congregation to join with them in providing some of the items which are needed by Safe Harbor at this time and are ongoing. They are completely out of the following items:• Shampoo (small travel sizes are acceptable):• Conditioner• Ladies razors• Toilet paper• Size 4, 5, & 6 diapers• Baby wipes Extra items needed:• Cleaning supplies• Dish soap• School supplies• Paper towels• Old cell phones and charges for 911phones• Gift cards or gas, food and Walmart. A bin is provided outside the office door where you may place your articles all through the month of July. They will be taken to Safe Harbor for its use in caring for the well-being of the victims and their children who have been abused.

July 14th, 2019 Service with Congolese
Signing the agreement between FCC and IMSS
Our church has the opportunity to have our brothers and sisters from the Congo, who now reside in Galesburg, worshiping in our church on a regular basis. The Congolese are a Protestant congregation that are looking for a place to worship on Sundays (in their French native tongue) from 1-3pm and have a prayer meeting on Wednesday nights…as they seek to eventually secure their own building. In the you see them worshipping this past Sunday. And there is also a desire for their children and youth to participate in our Sunday School and Wednesday night activities! They will be worshipping definitely through June 2nd, when we have a Congregational Meeting. The church is the International Ministries of the Salvation of Souls. Their doctrine is Apostolic and the Bible is the only Scripture they believe and Jesus is their Savior and Redeemer. They have communion 6-10 times a year and they baptize by immersion new believers Their vision is based on the Great Commission as found in Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:15-20 and Romans 10:14-18. Many of us have said we truly felt the Spirit of God moving among us! I truly thank God for the opportunity we have and ask for your prayers for our new brothers and sisters in Christ.
